 Jeff Howes is a Senior member of EIGCA (The European Institute of Golf Course Architects) and has during his career worked with five different architects, most notably Jack Nicklaus and Robert Trent Jones. A native of Canada, Jeff was an accomplished colliegate golfer having competed in several Canadian Amateur championships. Jeff currently plays off 5 and, is a member of Royal Dublin GC, Fota GC, Mt Juliet, Carlow GC, Gowran Park GC and The Heritage G&CC.

Jeff Howes started work on the maintenance of Golf Courses at the age of 17. After several years in maintenance Jeff, who holds a degree in Physical Geography and a Diploma in Turfgrass Management, worked six years constructing courses where his duties involved anything from drainage to the operation of bulldozers for shaping greens, bunkers etc.

Leaving Canada Jeff managed and supervised several projects in Japan and Thailand. In 1989 he was approached by the Jack Nicklaus Organisation and was sent to Ireland to work on the Mount Juliet project where from start to finish he acted as Jack Nicklaus’s Design Co-ordinator. Having finished Mount Juliet he then worked as Design Associate in the Nicklaus’ office in Florida preparing routing and contour plans for various sites throughout the world.

In 1991 Jeff resigned from the Nicklaus organisation to set up Jeff Howes Golf Design. Jeff Howes Golf Design’s many projects include Gowran Park, a golf course in and around a race course, Golf Club Adamstal in Austria, the redesign of Fota Island, host of the Irish Open in 2001 and 2002 and The Heritage Golf & Country Club, a co-design with Seve Ballesteros. JHGD was also involved in the restoration and upgrading of Mount Juliet in preparation of the American Express World Championship in 2002 and 2004.
